July 2019 Monthly Wrap-Up
Your monthly dose of finance, along with the latest How To Money articles and podcast episodes!

Alright alright, I’ve talked enough about tax these last two months to last another year - but if you’re still looking for info check out our new article and podcast on the topic below, and our resources in the June wrap-up. Another big month for our Australian stock market as it hit a 12-year high, and interest rate cuts are prompting Aussies to move money out of term-deposits and savings accounts. Just a quick reminder that if you’re saving for a short-term goal, don’t let lower interest rates move you into an investment that’s not right for you!
I’ve spent a lot of time this month learning more about ETFs and the launch of CommSec Pocket coincidently coincided with that. Democratising Australian investing is definitely something that I think is important, and the ability to buy 7 different ETFs (shown below) in your own name from $2 per parcel up to $1000, makes it much easier to get started.
There was some criticism on the ETF choices, as they aren’t necessarily the best available when it comes down to management fees, but if you’re looking to dip your toe into the water it’s a good place to start. I really hope other large providers with the ability to launch similar products do so, providing a greater variety of options to young investors getting started.
